A Recipe for Success

Secret to Success
Many people believe that it takes a great deal of intelligence to be successful. There successful people, however, who are not very intelligent. Intelligence Quotient (IQ) may be an ingredient or the secret for a successful life or career, but a person's emotions play a big role in his success or failure in life.

Psychologist Daniel Goleman, author of the best-selling book Emotional Intelligence, gives more weight on emotional quotient (EQ) as an ingredient for success. High IQ may help a person achieve his goals, but it is EQ that helps him sustain his relationships with people in the workplace and at home, and makes him stable as he moves up the ladder of success. After all, success means having to deal with different kinds of people.

Initiative is an important characteristic of successful people. People with initiative have the ability to identify what needs to be done, and do it. Most of the time, they do not need to be told what to do, and assume the responsibility. They evaluate what needs to be done and perform the task with pleasure, thus earning positive feedback from their colleagues. They are self-motivated, being passionate about their work, and they find great reward in accomplishing the work itself. As an author once said, a successful writer writes in "white heat" and revises in "cold blood."

Successful people never complain. They realize that being fretful about the job make a person look unprofessional, unpredictable and not worthy of greater responsibilities. They welcome bigger challenges and deal with bad situations squarely.

Alexander Graham Bell says that when one door closes, another door opens. However, some people spend a lot of time watching the closed door in regrets, and fail to see the which new door has opened. Success and failures are a part of life. Success brings joy, but it is failures that offer great lessons. When a person stops being afraid to fail, and takes initiative and performs a work with passion and without complaints, then he will start attracting success.
